We abide in God's word. Let us pray we put ourselves in God's arms. |
Amos 2:4-5
4 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Judah, even for four, I will not relent. Because they have rejected the law of the Lord and have not kept his decrees, because they have been led astray by false gods, the gods their ancestors followed, 5 I will send fire on Judah that will consume the fortresses of Jerusalem.”
- We pray for the sins we have committed. We pray for God's forgiveness of our sins. We pray for God to forgive and we can receive God's forgiveness. We pray for God's wisdom to be wise in God's ways, to make wise decisions for our lives, to choose God's paths to walk and to abide in God's word. We pray for God to watch over us and to lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen. |
Amos 2:6-12
6 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Israel, even for four, I will not relent. They sell the innocent for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals. 7 They trample on the heads of the poor as on the dust of the ground and deny justice to the oppressed. We should not bring harm or hurt to the innocent, needy and poor. We should never deny justice. Father and son use the same girl and so profane my holy name. 8 They lie down beside every altar on garments taken in pledge. We must be faithful to God. Abide in God's word. In the house of their god they drink wine taken as fines. We must be just and not ill treating others. 9 “Yet I destroyed the Amorites before them, though they were tall as the cedars and strong as the oaks. I destroyed their fruit above and their roots below. 10 I brought you up out of Egypt and led you forty years in the wilderness to give you the land of the Amorites. 11 “I also raised up prophets from among your children and Nazirites from among your youths. Is this not true, people of Israel?” declares the Lord. 12 “But you made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets not to prophesy. We should have the freedom to practice our faith and freedom to speak.
- From the word of God, we learn what is right and what is wrong. We learn the ways to live and the ways to treat others because the Lord is our God, our Father in heaven who will watch over us and discipline us when we do wrong so not to lead us to the wrong paths but to correct us to lead us to the right paths. The right paths that we will not bring harm to ourselves and to others, but to bring God's peace, joy, love and happiness to our lives.

Amos 3:7-8, 4:13
7 Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets. Surely He is a living God. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Seek God and listen to what He has to say about you, your plans. Let God leads you. What is more important and better than to be led by God, His command, His ways. Amos 3:8 The lion has roared - who will not fear? The Sovereign Lord has spoken - who can but prophesy. He comes with authority. Who can be greater and louder than the almighty God who rules His creations. Amos 4:13 He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth - the Lord God Almighty is his name. Amen.
Amos 5:4-7
4 This is what the Lord says to Israel: “Seek me and live; 5 do not seek Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not journey to Beersheba. For Gilgal will surely go into exile, and Bethel will be reduced to nothing.” 6 Seek the Lord and live, or he will sweep through the tribes of Joseph like a fire; it will devour them, and Bethel will have no one to quench it. 7 There are those who turn justice into bitterness and cast righteousness to the ground.
Amos 5:10-17-24
10 There are those who hate the one who upholds justice in court and detest the one who tells the truth. 11 You levy a straw tax on the poor and impose a tax on their grain. Therefore, though you have built stone mansions, you will not live in them; though you have planted lush vineyards, you will not drink their wine. 12 For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts. 13 Therefore the prudent keep quiet in such times, for the times are evil. 14 Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is. 15 Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the Lord God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph. 16 Therefore this is what the Lord, the Lord God Almighty, says:
“There will be wailing in all the streets and cries of anguish in every public square. The farmers will be summoned to weep and the mourners to wail. 17 There will be wailing in all the vineyards, for I will pass through your midst,”
18 Woe to you who long for the day of the Lord! Why do you long for the day of the Lord? That day will be darkness, not light. 19 It will be as though a man fled from a lion only to meet a bear, as though he entered his house and rested his hand on the wall only to have a snake bite him. 20 Will not the day of the Lord be darkness, not light - pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness? 21 “I hate, I despise your religious festivals; your assemblies are a stench to me. 22 Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them. 23 Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. 24 But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!
- The Lord is good all the time. He brings justice to the unjust. He brings peace who seek it. He brings love to all mankind. He brings salvation to those who seek and bend their knees for forgiveness of their sins.

Amos 8:7-12
7 The Lord has sworn by himself, the Pride of Jacob: “I will never forget anything they have done.
8 “Will not the land tremble for this, and all who live in it mourn? The whole land will rise like the Nile; it will be stirred up and then sink like the river of Egypt. 9 “In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight. 10 I will turn your religious festivals into mourning and all your singing into weeping. I will make all of you wear sackcloth and shave your heads. I will make that time like mourning for an only son and the end of it like a bitter day. 11 “The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land - not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. 12 People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.
- The Lord teaches, the Lord forgives. There will be time enough is enough. There are consequences for our wrongdoing and disobedience to God. The Lord teaches forgiveness as in Matthew 18:22 but His command will always stand. There will be a time enough is enough. The reading of God's word enrich our knowledge of God's teaching to us and who is God. God is definitely a loving God who created us in His image and wants all of us in His family. Truth, love and forgiveness are God's teaching but there is time enough is enough. Is why are we not listening? That's when we fall, runaway from God. And everyone who love us will keep praying and asking us to come back to God who is the truth, the way, the one true God. And hopefully like Noah who ranaway from God, God will lead us back on His path for us. Never fall but keep our faith in God.

Amos 9:8-12
8 “Surely the eyes of the Sovereign Lord are on the sinful kingdom. I will destroy it from the face of the earth. Yet I will not totally destroy the descendants of Jacob,” declares the Lord. 9 “For I will give the command, and I will shake the people of Israel among all the nations as grain is shaken in a sieve, and not a pebble will reach the ground. 10 All the sinners among my people will die by the sword, all those who say, ‘Disaster will not overtake or meet us.’ Forgive us God for our sins. We think highly of ourselves, not obeying your teaching, your command, not believing our day will come without our knowledge to face You and Your judgement. Please let our hearts be opened to You and asked You will lead us for You know our thoughts and know what is good and right.
Israel’s Restoration
11 “In that day “I will restore David’s fallen shelter - I will repair its broken walls and restore its ruins - and will rebuild it as it used to be, 12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear my name,” declares the LORD, who will do these things. The Lord judge, the Lord forgives, the Lord rebuild. Who are we to judge but to believe He is God and He is good and righteous.
